During Nicholas Kristof's column "Payday for Ice Bucket Challenge's Mocked Slacktavists" he starts off by using a facetious tone to explain how people thought that doing the challenge and posting a video would help find a cure for A.L.S. but then uses a more serious tone to explain that this callenge raised over $115 Million. He uses a sarcastic tone at the beginig by saying "the challenge wasted and cannibalized contributions to better causes that affect more people" (Kristof lines 7-8). "The ice bucket challenge was taken as emblematic of 'slacktivism'" (9). Kristof explains that the challenge was just for people who were trying to make themselves feel better without having to do any work. He then starts to switch tones in the next paraagraph by saying: "Scientists studying A.L.S. have reported a breakthrough that could lead to therapy...the money raised in the ice bucket challenge was crucial" (15-17). Kristof explains that the money raised from the challenge was important and helped find therapy and not just for A.L.S. but for other illnesses. Kristof suggests an opinion that overall the ice bucket challenge was a success because it raised money for the disease and spread awwarness all over the world.
