In Nicholas Kristof's article, he explains his opinion toward gun violence in America. He wants readers to get a full understanding of the problem we have in our country and he does this by appealing to logos and pathos. In the first few paragraphs Kristof appeals to pathos in explaining the gun violence problem which can do a good job of initially persuading people. Then he brings in the statistics that appeal to both emotions and logic: "In America, more preschoolers are shot dead each year (82 in 2013) than police officers are in the line of duty (27 in 2013)" (Lines 25-27). This appeals to any parents because the though of their kids being more likely to get shot than a police officer is terrifying. Then after that statstic he uses many more to explain how gun violence has gotten out of hand in America and that people needs to start fighting it.
