Abdisamad Adan, a twenty one year, is starting his freshmanyear at Harvard University. Nicholas Kristof explains his story in "From Somaliland to Harvard" by appeling to ethos, pathos, and logos. Kristof explains how in Somaliland there is a school opened by Jonathan Starr called the Abaarso School which accepts children looking for a better education because most kids in this country do not even make it through elementary school. Kristof appeals to ethos talking about this school because he explains that kids who graduate from here some go to M.I.T, George Washington University, and Harvard witch are all very credible schools which really shows the character of the Abaarso School. Next Kristof appeals to logos, he does this by explaining the odds of people completing school for Adan's home country. For example, he talks about how most of Adan's eighteen siblings are illiterate. His grandmother is also illiterate and she is the one who raised him. Finally, Kristof appeals to pathos by explaining Adan's life in detail. He did this to try to get the readers more interested in this article because if it was just some random guy, would it be as interesting to read?
